Triangle T Guest Ranch

By Noah Austin

Dragoon Triangle T Guest Ranch is one of Southern Arizona’s best-kept secrets, and that’s something owner Linda Kelly would like to change. “When people get here, they’re just amazed,” she says. “There isn’t a picture out there that does this place justice. You have to experience it.” The ranch is located just off Interstate 10 between Benson and Willcox, and the “T” stands for the surname of Metta Tutt, who bought the property in the 1920s as a warm, dry haven for his tuberculosis-stricken daughter. Since then, it’s hosted dignitaries such as President John F. Kennedy and General John J. Pershing, and during World War II, it served as a place of internment for a Japanese dignitary. Kelly bought the Triangle T in 2005, and guests visit for relaxation and a taste of the Old West. The ranch offers half-day and full-day horseback-riding, and the area is ideal for mountain-biking, hiking and birding. At night, the 10 well-appointed casitas and cabins give guests a comfortable place to crash after enjoying the outdoors all day. There’s something at the Triangle T for movie-history buffs, too: The 1957 film 3:10 to Yuma was shot on the property, and the original set is still standing.
