The Arizona Centennial Photo Project

As Arizona celebrates its Centennial on February 14, 2012, Arizona Highways, The American Society of Media Photographers — Phoenix and Tucson chapters and The Arizona Professional Photographers Association, in conjunction with a community of photographers, will capture a day in the life of Arizona.

The Arizona Centennial Photo Project is open to all amateur and professional photographers, and its mission is to create a photographic and historic record of the state on its 100th birthday.

Photographers should take the following into consideration when submitting images for the project:

  • Photographs must be made in Arizona on February 14, 2012, and must be submitted by February 28, 2012.
  • Photographs should reveal a sense of time and place. Landscape photos should include a human element that speaks to a sense of “now,” whether that’s a car, a pair of shoes, etc., rather than pure scenery.
  • The complete body of work will include images of all walks of life, from powerbrokers to ranchers to everyday people doing everyday things.
  • Photographs must be submitted in digital format. Only online entries (through www.arizonahighways.com/photography.asp) will be eligible. No print or film submissions will be accepted for entry into the project. The photograph need not be taken with a digital camera; scans of negatives, transparencies, or photographic prints are acceptable. All digital files entered must be 5 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG or JPG format, and must be at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image).
  • Photographers retain copyrights to all images. By submitting photographs, the photographer grants Arizona Highways first-time publishing and electronic rights.
Questions about the project may be directed to Kelly Kramer or Jeff Kida at Arizona Highways, 602-712-2031 and kkramer@azdot.gov, and 602-712-2042 and jkida@azdot.gov, respectively.
