Harris' Hawk Parabuteo unicinctus
Found year-round in south-central Arizona, this brown and chestnut hawk typically nests in saguaros, mesquite trees and yuccas. Its diet includes small birds and injured small waterfowl. The Harris’ hawk often perches on the tops of saguaros where it is easily seen. When flying overhead, the wide white band at the base of the tail is obvious, but the narrower white band at the tip may be seen as well.
