Arizona's best-known ski resort could add night skiing, tubing and other new services to its lineup in the next few years.

As the Associated Press reported this month, Arizona Snowbowl, near Flagstaff in the San Francisco Peaks, is submitting a master plan to the U.S. Forest Service, on whose land the resort operates via a special use permit. The expansion plans, which also include new chairlifts and mountain biking trails, will then be subject to an environmental review and public comment.

The resort's general manager said in a news release that the changes could boost Snowbowl's daily visitation from 3,870 to 4,500. The earliest the changes would be implemented is 2021, the resort said.

The Snowbowl area is home to a variety of activities year-round, including a scenic chairlift that operates in the summer. Several popular hiking trails, including the route up Humphreys Peak, begin near the resort.
