A Facebook post last week by our bosses at the Arizona Department of Transportation caused a stir among those hunting an elusive mythical figure.

As snow fell along State Route 260 on New Year's Day, ADOT posted photos from two of the department's traffic cameras. "We might have spotted a family of sasquatches on SR 260 near Heber this afternoon," the caption read. "What do you think?"

As Phoenix New Times' Ray Stern reported, what was meant as a joke quickly went viral. As of Tuesday, the post had been shared more than 4,000 times on Facebook. Bigfoot enthusiasts, it turns out, are always on the lookout for evidence that the legendary half-man, half-ape creature exists.

Subsequent photos from the same camera showed that the shadowy figures were still there. They're trees or bushes, not sasquatches.

But these photos aren't proof that Bigfoot doesn't exist ... right?
