If you're hoping to take a trip to Havasu Canyon this year, the time to make a reservation is fast approaching.

Registration for Havasu Falls hiking and camping permits opens February 1. The popular spot in the Grand Canyon requires reservations months in advance.

This year, the reservation system will open at 8 a.m. on February 1, but anyone interested needs to create an account on www.havasupaireservations.com ahead of time.

In order to secure a spot, you have to act fast. According to The Arizona Republic, all of the 350 spots were filled within five hours last year. Hikers are advised to be flexible with their choice of days and times, as your first choice may not be available when you sign up.

This year's permit costs have not been released, but last year, a one-night stay was $140, two nights were $171 and three nights were $201. All reservations have to be paid in full when they are made, and are non-refundable and non-transferable.

The person making the reservation must be present at the Tourist Check-in Office with valid identification in order for the reservation to be honored.

Those who prefer not to go through the online process can try to call for a reservation.
