The city of Peoria has broken ground for a new park near Lake Pleasant Parkway and Dixileta Drive.

Paloma Park will start out at 85 acres and include baseball and soccer fields, a fishing lake, splash pads and picnic areas.

The park will eventually grow to be 120 acres, becoming the city's largest park. Construction for phase one is expected to be done by the summer of 2020. The Peoria City Council approved a $34.4 million contract for the park last year.

“Quality parks enrich our community and contribute to the sense of fulfilment and enjoyment that makes our city such a wonderful place to live,” Mayor Cathy Carlat said in a press release.

The land where the park will be built is owned by the Maricopa County Flood Control District, but the city of Peoria has teamed up with the county entity to manage the area.
