The North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park is hosting Native American Heritage Days tomorrow and Friday (August 6-7). The event celebrates the 11 tribes with cultural connections to the Canyon. This is the 22nd annual celebration of the event, which began in 1993 as Paiute Days.

From a National Park Service news release:

This event celebrates the rich cultural diversity of the Colorado Plateau and the Arizona Strip, highlighting Native American tribes with cultural ties to Grand Canyon. The event opens on Thursday, August 6 with demonstrations of Native American arts and crafts such as silversmithing, pottery, basket weaving, painting, carving, flute making and preparation of traditional foods. The event ends Friday, August 7 with a special evening program at 8 p.m. on native perspectives and the cultural significance of Grand Canyon.

A complete list of activities associated with the event is available at the North and South Rim visitors centers. While you're on the North Rim, consider taking a hike on the gorgeous Rainbow Rim Trail.
