The Certified Local Fall Festival this weekend in Phoenix honors Arizona-grown food, fun and entertainment. And it's free.
The festival, organized by Local First Arizona, is Saturday, November 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hance Park. Organizers say more than 100 local vendors will be on hand, and attendees can try samples from some of the state's best restaurants. According to Local First Arizona, supporting local businesses over national chains means up to four times as much money stays in the local economy.
Live entertainment by Arizona bands the Sunpunchers, the Loose Cannon Blues Band and other acts is also scheduled. Activities for kids include water-themed games, crafting, a Bookman's "musical instrument petting zoo" and sports-themed activities. A raffle and a silent auction also are planned.
Festival organizers recommend that attendees ride the Metro light rail to either Central Avenue and Roosevelt Street or Central and McDowell Road, then walk to the festival, which is just east of Central. Entry is free, but food sample tickets are $1 each, and drink samples will be available for two food tickets.
