Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is adding more convenience for nursing mothers.

The Phoenix City Council has approved installing six portable nursing stations at Terminal 4. Previously, women had to exit through security in order to find a place to breastfeed or pump.

According to KTAR, the nursing pods will bring Terminal 4 into compliance with the Friendly Airport for Mothers Act, which requires airports receiving federal grants to have lactation areas past security checkpoints. Terminals 2 and 3 have already been compliant with the act.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego discussed the addition in a video posted on Twitter. Gallego says, "When I ran for mayor, I wanted to help solve everyday problems. It’s hard traveling with a child. The new nursing pods at Sky Harbor will be quiet, mobile and secure. They’ll have outlets so moms can pump or nurse, whatever works for them."

The contract to install the stations will begin around July 1. The money for the contract is coming out of the Aviation Department's budget.
