There's no better cure for a New Year's Eve hangover than a New Year's Day hike.

That may not actually be true. But regardless of whether you had a little too much fun the night before, Arizona State Parks is offering a chance to start the new year right with a January 1 guided hike in one of our picturesque state parks.

At most of the "First Day Hikes," rangers and/or volunteers will lead participants on trails that vary in distance and difficulty. Along the way, they'll point out plants and animals that live in the park, along with historical facts and scenic areas.

Space is limited, and those hoping to participate should register for a hike in advance. As with any hike, be sure to wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Take water and snacks, too.
