From the issue: "'Golden Sentinel in Canyon de Chelly,' by Chuck Abbott. 5x7 Deardorff View camera; Ektachrome; f.25 at 1/25th sec; Commercial Ektar lens; late October; sunny, bright day; Weston 400 meter reading; ASA rating 40. Photograph taken in Canyon de Chelly National Monument on the Navajo Reservation in northeastern Arizona. The photographer says: 'We thought, at first, recent autumn rains would prevent us from taking the car, especially equipped for the purpose, up the canyon, but our driver skillfully navigated running water and quicksands to get us up in the canyon and into the shadows of glowing cottonwoods. Canyon de Chelly is always a spectacular sight but when autumn color transforms the cottonwoods on the canyon floor, generally in late October, we feel you see the area at its best."
