Birders can visit a National Park Service site northeast of the Phoenix area for ranger-led bird walks over the next month.

Tonto National Monument, which protects a group of cliff dwellings near Theodore Roosevelt Lake, is hosting the guided walks on Wednesday mornings through April 17. The walks are from 9 to 11 a.m. and are included with park admission, which is $10 per person.

Reservations are not required, the monument said in a news release, but participants should wear dependable hiking shoes and bring binoculars, a water bottle and a field guide. All experience levels are welcome, and novice birders can use binoculars and field guides supplied by the Park Service.

Some of the birds frequently spotted at the monument include Gila woodpeckers and turkey vultures, the monument's staff said. Birds spotted during the walks will be recorded and featured on the monument's social media channels.
