National Public Lands Day is this coming Saturday, September 24, and you can celebrate by visiting one of Arizona's national parks — for free.

The National Park Service is waiving entrance fees at all its national parks and monuments on Saturday. This is the Park Service's second-to-last fee-free day of 2016 — the final one will be Veterans Day (November 11). Fees for camping, reservations, tours and concessions still apply.

Grand Canyon National Park is combining National Public Lands Day with another special occasion: Bike Your Park Day, a new Adventure Cycling Association "holiday" intended to encourage people to explore parks and public lands via bicycle.

The park is celebrating Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a newly completed section of the Greenway Trail, which runs from Tusayan to the South Rim. Following the 9:30 a.m. ceremony, an inaugural ride along the trail will begin around 10 a.m. Anyone who wants to pedal, walk or run the 6.5-mile route is welcome to participate.

Other special events Saturday include an Arizona Storytellers Project event at 7:30 p.m. at the Shrine of the Ages auditorium. The free event features four different true tales of outdoor adventures.
