A new exhibition in Sonoita takes an in-depth look at the many times Hollywood has visited Santa Cruz County.

The Bowman and Stradling History Center at the Sonoita Fairgrounds is hosting the exhibititon, which includes exhibits and artifacts from the many Westerns filmed in the area. Those include TombstoneMcLintock! and Red River, along with Oklahoma! — which famously was filmed in Arizona because a suitable location in Oklahoma could not be found.

The exhibition includes an Arizona Highways story on the filming of Oklahoma! from April 1955. The historic Hacienda de la Canoa Ranch also contributed to the show.

The grand opening for the exhibition is Saturday, February 2, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds, 3142 State Route 83. Visitors can meet stuntmen and locals who acted as extras in the films. Admission is free, and complimentary refreshments and drinks will be offered.
