Its color in bloom is soft yellow, permeated with sunshine, and in the rustle of its blossoms it sings of a fresh, new world and a fresh new season.

Seek out the ocotillo if you wish to see a charming portrait in Spring. This strange Arizona character is not a cactus, but in reality is related to the lily family. Its long green branches hold a gorgeous red blossom, tenderly and delicately. You wonder how such long slender arms could hold such large blossoms, to say nothing of dancing with them in the gentle desert breeze. Sometimes from a distance you only see the blossoms floating about like large butterflies. On close inspection you find the blossoms are attached to the arms of the ocotillo and to the good earth.

Spring in our land is a mighty serenade of color. The artist will frantically stir his paint pots to catch the evasive combinations of reds, yellows, greens, blues, and the delicate shades between, only to confess himself a beaten man. If you follow that will o' the wisp, the camera lens, bring along oodles of color film, because color portraits will besiege you where ever you turn. Whether you seek panorama or close-up, you'll never lack subjects, if your way is to our desert in Spring. You'll always find an accommodating cloud hanging around a mountain top, very photogenic and a perfect backdrop to the desert scene. Even the clouds try to be helpful in our land.
