Out Wickenburg Way

"Out Wickenburg Way" has been made famous by the noted cartoonist J. R. Williams. The distinguished British author, J. B. Priestley, who has spent several winters in Wickenburg, says in his "Midnight on the Desert" that the finest winter climate in the world is to be found here. The country is beautiful and the 2,000-foot altitude makes the area delightful, summer and winter.Wickenburg is a sunshiny, friendly town on the banks of the legendary Hassayampa River in the northwestern part of Maricopa county-54 miles from Phoenix.
Perhaps the Roundup Club of Wickenburg, with their adopted slogan, "Wickenburg-Dude Ranch Capital of the World," will be challanged by other enthusiastic regional boosters, but it cannot be denied, Wickenburg is a noted and delightful dude-ranching area. There are at least seven fine dude ranches in this area, some of them open the year round, and they combine the rudeness of corrals and stables with modern hotel luxury. Combined with the distinctive western atmosphere surrounding these guest ranches are the modern conveniences for the comfort of the guests from all sections of the nation who annually spend their winters here.
Located as they are in the rolling and colorful mesas studded with cacti and other desert growth-where mountains roll down to meet the desert-warm sunshine in the tonic air of the high desert-where guests may enjoy the complete freedom of outdoor life and western sports. There is opportunity for complete rest or plenty of activity. Some of the ranches are comparatively small-others real old-time cow ranches. One of these ranches has been occupied for over eighty years. It is a real old Arizona cow ranch-still retaining all the frontier charm. For a place to spend long hours in the warm sunshine; to relax and rest; to get back to the simple and quiet living, and to escape the tempestuous and hurried bustle that marks the life of the big city-Wickenburg will not be disappointing. To enjoy horseback rides in the country untouched by the tempo of too modern civilization; to take part in the wholesome life of a western ranch-to be around horses and other stock, and the thousand and one things that hold the cow country distinct and apart from other forms of living-these things become a reality "Out Wickenburg Way."
