November, 1927 ARIZONA HIGHWAYS Page Twenty-five BOYS' AND GIRLS' CLUB PLAN EXHIBITS FOR FAIR
One of the most interesting and novel features of the twenty-third annual Arizona State Fair, to be held here November 7th to 12th, will be the Boys' and Girls' Club Department which will display the work of nearly 1500 4-H youngsters. Cash prizes offered in this department will total more than a thousand dollars, according to A. B. Ballantyne, the Superintendent. It is confidently expected that this exhibit will exceed all others in points of interest, size and attractiveness.
The display will show the cream of the work done by nearly 1500 4-H boys and girls who are located in all parts of Arizona, from the tops of the White Mountains and the Indian villages of the north to the "Sunkist" farms of Southern Arizona. The feature will be exhibits of clothing made by the girls, displays of bread foods and samples of menus prepared by club members. Also bed-spreads, curtains, furniture, etc., representing the work in beautifying the girls' own rooms on the farms in Arizona. In addition, there will be displays of corn, cabbage, potatoes, vegetables, etc., from the boys' gardens in Navajo, Yavapai, Greenlee, Graham and Maricopa Counties.
The livestock division will be well represented by an array of fine calves, pigs and chickens. Maricopa County has had a banner year in livestock club work and the display of fine 4-H dairy calves and pigs will be a feature of the fair.
Arizona has an official calf club under the directions of the Extension Service of the U. of A. and the American Jersey Cattle Club. This club will most likely make a display of the finest Jersey calves owned by the boys and girls in Arizona.
