ARIZONA HIGHWAYS CLIFTON-MULE CREEK ROAD
Morenci, 6 miles up the mountain, the ore is still brought to Clifton to be smeltered. About 1500 men are employed at Morenci in the mines and about 200 in the smelters at Clifton.
The Forestry Service and Greenlee and Apache Counties are building a road through the heart of the White mountains to tap the Old Trails Highway at Springerville. Only a few miles remain to be constructed, and the road should be finished next year. Even now it is possible to travel 70 miles into the mountains where one can fish and hunt big game. This road will open up parts of the Blue Range Mountains hertofore inaccessible to the tourist.
ton and Silver City, New Mexico. The road though narrow, is in excellent condition and the grades are not over six per cent. To obtain this six per cent maximum grade the location engineers resorted to some very clever development. At the top of Mule Creek, and on to the New Mexico line, the road passes through a beautiful timbered country and in places reaches an elevation of over 6000 feet.
RETURN TRIP TO DUNCAN
Returning to Duncan by way of the Clifton-Duncan Highway the tourist finds a well graded gravel road passing at times over long mesa, and at times through a country badly cut up by cross washes. The drainage is well taken care of however, and the grades are not excessive. At Duncan this road connects with the Safford-Duncan highway.
Ten miles from Clifton the State has built 17 1-2 miles of road up Mule Creek to the New Mexico line to connect Clifton-
