Safe for all kinds of driving~ Economical in construction~ THAT'S THE MODERN PAVEMENT!

When your paving is Non-Skid Asphaltic Concrete, heavy gradesquick stops “hairpin” turns, hold fewer dangers! The safety factor, built right into this road surface, reduces the peril of skidding to a minimum.

Stone chips pressed into the Asphaltic Concrete surface provide a smooth attractive ribbon of highway with just enough tiny indentations to afford automobile tires a sure, firm grip in all kinds of weather.

You take safety, smooth riding, freedom from glare for granted on Asphaltic Concrete pavements, but they'll also save you money on construction costs and upkeep! Many Asphaltic Concrete highways, with practically no repairs whatever, are still standing up under heavy traffic after 15 or 20 years' service!

These are the reasons Non-Skid Asphaltic Concrete has been adopted as “Standard” by the California State Highway Commission and by some 230 odd towns and cities in the Pacific West States.

Investigate Non-Skid Asphaltic Concrete before you pave.

PAGE HI-WAY GUARD The Lifeline of the Highway Carbon-forming oils got an awful blow when “MODEL A” succeeded “MODEL T”! modern motors have no room for hard carbon!

In the excitement of new models and new body-lines on so many different cars these last few seasons we've almost overlooked the great est change of all-a change in motor design.

No longer are motors slow and in efficient, with big roomy spaces for carbon to gather. Pistons now reach almost to the cylinder head-within 1/32 of an inch in some motors. Increased efficiency is the order of the day. It accounts for the greater power, economy, speed of the new cars. The new Fords you now see by hundreds get their power from such an improved motor.

Yet there are people who wish you'd never even heard of this change in motors.

They are the refiners of motor oils that form quantities of hard, gritty carbon. Such oils were bad enough in old-style roomy engines. They are ruinous in the newer cars!

Hard carbon causes knocking, engine strain. Flakes chip off and grind through tight pistons and bearings. Particles get under valves, making them leak power, warp, burn quickly.

There is one motor oil, however, that lubrication engineers pronounce ideal for present day lubrication. It actually forms only 1/3 to 1/5 as much carbon as even the costliest oils sold! The little it does form is just a soft soot carried away easily by the exhaust.

It is Shell Motor Oil. The new high-vacuum process by which it is made gives it other important qualities, too. It withstands violent tem perature changes which would break down old-style oils. It holds its body -not only when it is cool but un der the intense heat inside a high compression motor.

Once you begin using Shell Motor Oil you'll tolerate no other kind.

Even the most expensive oils form more carbon. A sample of this oil, when burned, left more than three times as much as Shell Motor Oil An equal sample of Shell Motor Oil left only this small fraction of carbon-and it is soft carbon, not the hard, gritty, damaging kind Beneath the hood of the new Ford is a sturdy modern motor. It will give you wonderful service, sustained high speed, long life-but remember that there is no room in it for the handful of hard carbon which old-style oils would soon deposit
