hoto Adventures Focusing on the Grand Canyon's North Rim

The dazzling fall colors that decorate the Grand Canyon's North Rim strike photographer Christine Keith as "added visual elements in an already visually loaded environment." Keith is an Arizona Republic photographer whose Nature work has appeared in Arizona Highways, Sierra Club calendars, and Outside magazine. She'll lead a special fall Friends of Arizona Highways photography teaching tour along the North Rim and through the Kaibab Plateau. The six-day Photo Workshop, October 3 through 8, will combine day-hiking and overnight lodge stays with color photography instruction and "shooting." The trek begins with a day's hike in the Kaibab Plateau, then it's on to a gourmet lunch, a welcoming dinner, and overnight stay at the Kaibab Lodge. Other sites to be visited are Saddle Mountain on the Grand Canyon's East Rim, Cape Royal and the Grand Canyon Lodge, Widforss Trail, and Bright Angel Point. A past recipient of the Leica Medal of Excellence, Keith said a feature of her instruction will be the delicate white-trunked aspen trees and their "quaking leaves" as they transform to fall dress from emerald green to canary yellow. Another focus will be the virgin old growth in areas of the Kaibab National Forest on the Kaibab Plateau. Following are other trips in upcoming months.
