FRIENDS TRAVEL ADVENTURES Pursuing Fall Color at the Golly Gulch
Arizona's Grand Canyon dons a dress afire with dazzling marigold and russet when fall sets in. These colorsand the foliage that "wears" them are the focus of a special Photo Workshop sponsored this fall by the Friends of Arizona Highways.
Beginning October 2, the sixday session will demonstrate for photographers the art of capturing natural outdoor colors. Led by noted outdoor photographer Christine Keith, the session will cover breathtaking spots including the Grand Canyon's North Rim and Kaibab Plateau, the Canyon's East Rim, and Point Imperial on the Widforss Trail.
Activities will begin with an on-the-road gourmet lunch and afternoon arrival from Phoenix at Kaibab Lodge in the Kaibab National Forest. A welcoming dinner will be held for participants, and the evening will include Keith's introductory photography instruction.
Days 2 and 3 will include a visit to the East Rim, overnight stay at Saddle Mountain Lodge, and a trek to Cape Royal at Fire Point, a virgin old-growth ponderosa pine forest. Fall's glorious sunrises and sunsets will be the focus of in-the-field photographic instruction.
The workshop will conclude with a trip to Point Imperial on the Widforss Trail, dinner at Grand Canyon Lodge, and a sunrise "shoot" at Bright Angel Point. Participants also will enjoy lunch at the historic Cameron Trading Post before an early evening return to Phoenix.
