FRIENDS TRAVEL ADVENTURES New Photosampler Tours Offer the Best of Sight-seeing and Taking Photos
In Monument Valley the colors glint rusty red and burnt orange as you look across the wind-rippled dunes at the im-mense rock spires with names like The Mittens, Yeibichai, and Totem Pole. You can almost hear John Wayne yelling "Forward ho!" and see him leading his troops out on patrol in She Wore a Yel-low Ribbon or riding doggedly against a windstorm in The Searchers. It was in Monument Valley that Wayne established himself as a motion-picture star.
You may not emerge as a movie star, but you can im-merse yourself in the splendor of Monument Valley, and other scenic destinations, during one of the new Photosampler Tours sponsored by the Friends of Arizona Highways. Guides and photographers whose work ap-pears in the magazine will ac-company you on these five-day tours combining the best of sight-seeing with photo oppor-tunities: they get you to your destinations at the right time of day to snap photos.
These trips also take you to Lake Powell, whose vast waters wander amid rock formations so different you'll think you're on another planet, to the 27-mile-long Canyon de Chelly, where the Spanish massacred but could not drive out the Navajos, and, of course, to our greatest scenic wonder, the Grand Canyon.
And you'll be at these places with people who know the lay of the land, with insiders, who not only will guide you but will tell you where to get the best pictures
