More Tourists buy TEXACO FIRE-CHIEF than any other brand of gasoline
FROM COAST TO COAST in all our 48 states-Texaco Fire-Chief is the preferred gasoline of tourists-the people who roll up the miles on the highways, who travel all sorts of country in all kinds of weather.
They know that Fire-Chief is made according to specifications-made to exceed the Government's requirements for fireengines and ambulances.
When you fill your tank with FireChief, you are buying as scientifically as the Government itself: on specifications -not claims.
ARIZONA HIGHWAYS LEGEND OF SUPERSTITION
Continued from Page 12) penance he was compelled to forego scratching himself with his nails; this he must thereafter do with a small stick to be renewed every fourth day.
In the eagle's nest he found the remains of a great many persons whom the eagle had killed. These, Szeukha restored to life and sent them down into the valley to repeople the earth.
And in the same place he found the eagle's wife, a fair woman, and with her, a child.
From these two there descended those ancient inhabitants of the Salt and Gila valleys, known by the name, Ho-Ho-Kam who, under the guidance of a mysterious eagle, left these parts, in ages gone, and passed into Mexico. It was they who built the Casa Grande and the pre-historic canals, still remaining in Arizona.
The time came when a woman ruled over the Ho-Ho-Kam, sitting upon the throne of blue jasper, and attended constantly by a mysterious bird.
At that time, enemies of the Ho-Ho-Kam lived to the eastward, on the Verde river. One day the bird whispered to the woman: "The enemy from the Verde is coming."
But, like all women, she naturally hated war, and she refused to listen. The bird was right, and the enemy swept down upon the trusting Ho-Ho-Kam, destroyed their cities, and drove them all away. They have never returned, to this day. On Superstition mountain you can see the line which marks the height to which the waters rose; and on the top where few have been, there can be seen the petrified forms of the prehistoric people who were carried off by the wicked eagle. The excellent cover photograph of Superstition mountain is by Norman G. Wallace. (Continued from Page 14)
THE EYES HAVE IT
Having a common meeting point at the combined speed of 90 miles per hour, and the slightest defect or malfunctioning of the visual apparatus of either driver must result in fatalities.
It must be understood then, that too much light is just as injurious as too little, in regard to the proper functioning of the eyes, but the eye is a highly adaptable organ which can be driven to function long after the margin of safety is passed, but nature will collect her debt; a penalty must inevitably be paid.
