Really a lake but a small limestone sinkhole surrounded by ponderosa pine trees. You'll find accommodations, gas and the Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center at Jacob Lake. State 67, the road adjacent to the visitors center, extends south along the spine of the Kaibab Plateau to the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The trip to Timp and North Timp Points begins on 67, but you'll turn off the pavement before reaching the entrance to the national park. Doing so enables you to see the Canyon from an isolated spot in the Kaibab National Forest. All by your lonesome.
