The summer storms have been rolling in and out all day on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I'm sitting in my camper at Point Imperial waiting this one out. Finally, the rain lets up, and soon dozens of tourists from various corners of the planet are roaming the area, clicking away at the Canyon with all sorts of cameras. I can spot the serious photographers: they have a patient, contemplative attitude. For myself, I rise a little earlier than most of these visitors, walk a little farther, and wait a little longer with my view camera aimed and focused to capture the splendid essence of this sublime bit of eternity.

Randy Prentice had experienced the wonders of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, but this was his first visit to the North Rim.

In early July, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon presents a kaleidoscopic panorama. (LEFT) Morning at Point Imperial. (FOLLOWING PANEL, PAGES 28 AND 29) Dusk at the Walhalla Overlook. (PAGES 30 AND 31) Afternoon at Cape Royal. (PAGES 32 AND 33) Juno Temple viewed from Cape Final.
