This painting appears at an Arizona gallery. The artist designed and built the place after hitching a ride into town with $15 in his pocket. He also attracted attention in the 1970s for burning his paintings to protest inheritance taxes on works of art. The gallery will mark its 50th anniversary in 2015. — NOAH AUSTIN
