BOULDER DAM

MIDWAY 'tween snow-capped mountain And a parched and desert land, In a deep and rocky canyon, Hollowed by Time's aged handStands a thing of brain and muscle, Broken rocks and bits of sand.
DESERT LAND that's been the ending Of an ancient, savage race, That had sought it for a refuge And had found a burial place, Soon will grow a flower-like pall That will shroud each fleshless face.
BARRING water madly rushing To an old and thirsty sea, Barring water for a parched land And a race that is to be; What has been a rock-walled canyon Soon will be an inland sea.
WHITE man, white man, where the burden When you gave this thing its birth, When you gave of brain and muscle To combine with Mother Earth And create a living empire, Where before was naught but dearth.
