Placing an aggregate base course and oil processing the roadway using an SC-6 road oil, plant mix. The construction of one 7 span, 6 girder bridge on a 45 degree skew; one 4-25 ft. span bridge on a 80 degree skew; one 3 span 10'x8'x56.5' concrete box culvert; one 3-span 10'x4'x53.5 concrete box culvert; one 10'x8'x110.5' concrete box culvert; one 6'x5'x104' concrete box culvert and other miscellaneous work on approximately 3.1 miles of the Kingman-Needles Highway. Warren Southwest, Inc., Los Angeles, California, has a contract for grading and draining the roadway over a re-located line. Placing an imported Borrow Base Course and oil processing the roadway using an SC-3 road oil, road mix. The construction of one 6'x6'x36.5' concrete box culvert, the construction of 17 dips, and other miscellaneous work incidental to the construction of approximately 6.86 miles of the Hope-Parker Highway. Skousen Bros., Albuquerque, New Mexico, has a contract for grading, and draining the roadway over a new located line. Placing an aggregate base course and oil processing the roadway using an SC-3 road oil, road mix. The construction of one 2 span 10'x5'x41' concrete box culvert, one 2 span 10'x5'x29.5' concrete box culvert, one 2 span 10'x4'x29.5' concrete box culvert, and 6 miscellaneous smaller size concrete box culverts and other miscellaneous work incidental to the construction of approximately 8.83 miles of the Ajo-Gila Bend Highway. The substructure will consist of 6 intermediate piers and 2 abutment piers built of reinforced concrete. The superstructure will consist of a steel girder deck with a 26' clear roadway, approximately 251' long, and is to be completed by July 31st, 1939. Federal aid grade highway project 85-A (2). A. F. Oswald Brothers Contractors, Phoenix, Arizona, has a contract for the grading and draining the roadway over a new located line. The construction of one 3 span 10'x8'x82' concrete box culvert on a 30 degree skew; one 10'x8'x40' concrete box culvert; one 10'x7'x44.5' concrete box culvert; one 6'x7'x78.5' concrete box culvert; one 6'x5'x51' concrete box culvert and other miscellaneous work on approximately 4.72 miles of the Flagstaff-Fredonia Highway. Beginning at the town of Fredonia and extending southeasterly. Construction started January 12th, 1939 and is to be completed by October 15th, 1939. Federal aid project 132-B (1) A. F. E. 8903. H. B. Oswald Brothers, Contractors, Phoenix, Arizona, has a contract for the grading and draining the roadway over a new located line. The construction of one 10'x8'x55.5' concrete box culvert; one 6'x6'x45.75' concrete box culvert; one 6'x4'x47' concrete box culvert; one 5'x5'x37.5' concrete box culvert and other miscellaneous work on approximately 9.96 miles of the Flagstaff-Fredonia Highway, beginning near the town of Fredonia and extending southeasterly. N. G. Hill and Company, Phoenix, Arizona, has a contract for the grading and draining the roadway over a new located line. Placing imported borrow and a select material over the roadway. Constructing about ten 10'x6'x7' concrete box culverts on approximately 9.8 miles of the Showlow-Holbrook Highway, beginning near Showlow and extending northerly. Construction started November 2nd, 1938, and is to be completed by July 31st, 1939. Federal aid project 136-A (1). A. F. E. 7704. J. B. Robinson, resident engineer.
W. E. Bondurant, Roswell, New Mexico has a contract for the construction of a bridge across the Little Colorado river about 2.5 miles east of Winslow. The substructure will consist of 8 intermediate piers and 2 abutment piers built on concrete piles driven approximately 55 ft. below streambed The superstructure will consist of a steel plate girder deck with a 26' clear roadway and approximately 766' long, and will replace the present steel truss bridge which is 14 clear roadway and 620' long. Construction started on March 3rd, 1939, and is to be completed by November 30th, 1939. Federal aid propect 40-B (1). A. F. E. 6605. F. A. Berg, resident engineer.
State Forces are building right-of-way fence from 17 miles west of Winslow to Canyon Diablo, Works Progress Administration participating. Work was started December, 1938, A. F. E. 5101. C. J. Houck, transitman in charge.
State Forces are constructing a line change on State 65, Winslow-Pine Highways, consisting of grading, draining, surfacing and fencing, beginning 2.6 miles north of the Coconino National Forest boundary, and extending north toward Winslow. State Forces are widening and surfacing the McNary-Fort Apache Highway, Works Progress Administration participating. Equipment on this project is being furnished by the Apache Indian Service. Work started in June, 1938. A. F. E. 7301. C. S. Redd, resident engineer.

Placing an imported borrow capping over the roadway. Constructing a new 5-25' continuous span slab bridge, a new 3-25' continuous span slab bridge, a dbl, 10'x10' concrete box culvert and 9 miscellaneous size concrete box culverts on approximately 4.33 miles of the Solomonville-Duncan highway, beginning about 18.5 miles east of Solomonville and extending easterly. Lee Moor Contracting Company, El Paso, Texas, has a contract for subgrading the roadway and refinishing the slopes, furnishing and placing select material, applying SC-6 road oil plant mix, type "B" seal coat and asphaltic surface treating the roadway, on approximately 3.89 miles of the Globe-Showlow Highway, beginning about 50 miles northeast of Globe and extending southwesterly. Two grade changes, curve betterment on dangerous curves, placing curb, gutter and sidewalks, rebuilding rubble retaining walls, placing cattle guards and fencing, and constructing a grilled drain across the highway to eliminate wet pavement. BUREAU OF PUBLIC ROADS PROJECTS IN ARIZONA. PROJECTS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Route 7, Oak Creek Highway, Coconino National Forest.
Pearson and Dickerson, Contractors, Inc., Prescott, Arizona, have the contract for grading, draining and placing base course surfacing with light bituminous treatment, on a portion of Section B of Arizona Forest Highway Route 7, Oak Creek. Project begins 0.6 miles north of Sedona and extends 3.577 miles northerly to Indian Gardens. Work was started November 21, 1938 and is about 50% complete. V. G. Watson, resident engineer.
Route 33, Catalina Mountain Highway, Coronado National Forest Project consists of grading and draining of a highway on the south side of the Catalina Mountains, between a point approximately 17 miles northeast of Tucson, Arizona and Soldier Camp Ranger Station near the summit. The project has been completed from the foot of the mountain to a point 9 miles toward the summit. H. H. Woodman, resident engineer.
PROJECTS SUSPENDED FOR WINTER
Route 17, Snowflake-Pinetop, Sitgreaves National Forest W. E. Orr, Phoenix, Arizona, has the contract for grading, draining and placing borrow backfill on a portion of Section B of Arizona Forest Highway Route 17, Snowflake-Pinetop. Project begins approximately 2 miles north of Pinetop and extends 3.175 miles northwest to a point approximately 2 miles north of Lakeside. Work was suspended for the winter on January 6, 1939 when about 99% complete. C. H. Clark, resident engineer.
Route 19, Clifton--Alpine Highway, Crook National Forest All Arizona Engineering and Construction Company, Clifton, Arizona, has the contract for grading, draining and placing cushion material on a portion of Section B of Arizona Forest Highway Route 19, Clifton-Alpine. Project begins approximately 45 miles north of Clifton and extends northerly 6.115 miles. Work was suspended for the winter on December 14, 1938 when about 73% complete. E. F. Route 28, Fredonia-Houserock Valley Highway, Coconino National Forest Fisher Contracting Company, Phoenix, Arizona, has the contract for grading, draining and placing base course surfacing with light bituminous treatment on portions of Section C and D of Arizona Forest Highway Route 28, Fredonia-Houserock Valley. Project is located between points approximately 3 and 16 miles north of Jacob Lake. The length of roadway between these points covered by the project is 6.137 miles. Work was suspended for the winter on January 3, 1939 when about 73% complete. C. R. Brashears, resident engineer.
Jacob Lake-North Rim Approach to Grand Canyon National Forest Fisher Contracting Company, Phoenix, Arizona, has the contract for grading, draining and placing base course surfacing with light bituminous treatment on a section of the Jacob Lake-North Rim Approach Road to Grand Canyon National Forest. Project begins at Jacob Lake and extends south 1.278 miles. Work was suspended for the winter on November 23, 1938 when about 95 % complete. C. R. Brashears, resident engineer. The Secretary of Agriculture on December 30, 1938 accepted the bid of Oswald Brothers, Phoenix, Arizona, for grading, draining and placing crusher run rock top course with a light bituminous treatment on portions of Section C and D of Arizona Forest Highway Route 28, Fredonia-Houserock Valley. Project begins at Jacob Lake and extends 11 miles northerly towards Fredonia. Contract work will start later in the year when weather conditions are favor-able.
