Yours Sincerely and Sincerely to You.
WORLD IS OUR NEIGHBOR:
"We want to thank you for sending us ARIZONA HIGHWAYS, which we are very glad to have on file in our American Library, and to wish you and your readers a Merry Christmas and a bright, prosperous New Year. Thank you again."
The Dan-American Archives, by Sv. Waindelin, Archivist, Aalborg, Denmark.
And we thank our good friend, Archivist Waindelin, for a cheery greeting and we wish him and all the nice folk of Denmark, now in shadows of the dark clouds of war and duress, also a "bright and Prosper-ous New Year."
"Each month after reading the new number of ARIZONA HIGHWAYS another heart throbs with a strong desire to 'go back to the desert,' so irresistible to those who know and love her.
"The desert, her myriad, moods, and interminable offer for adventure shine true in the pages of your ARIZONA HIGHWAYS because of its wide selection of photo subjects and loyal adherence to all that is 'truly Arizonan.' It carries the Arizona message with telling accuracy even 'way down under' in the Argentine Republic.
"Thanks for one hour each month in Arizona."
H. Darrel Taylor, Rosario F. C. C. A., Argentine Republic.
"Having read your November issue of ARIZONA HIGHWAYS, and being an Arizonan myself, I noticed all the medals and citations that Lt. Frank Luke, Jr., was given. But there is another honor our Arizona heroic war eagle was given. That was in naming one of the army's air fields here in Oaho, Hawaii, after him and that is Luke Field in Oaho, Hawaii. It is the most colorful field the army has over here. That is my opinion of it."
A. R. Gonzales, Hq. Btry., 2nd Bn. 8 F. A., Scholfield Barracks, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Thanks, indeed, to Soldier Gonzales for calling our attention to another great honor extended our own Frank Luke, jr.
WE PROUDLY TAKE A BOW:
"Congratulations on the very splendid December issue of ARIZONA HIGHWAYS. It is one of the finest I have even seen. The photographic content is particularly outstanding. I am sort of a photographer myself, and I can appreciate the high standards of art used in it.
have even seen. The photographic content is particularly outstanding. I am sort of a photographer myself, and I can appreciate the high standards of art used in it.
"If you can, please include the name of Ed Kerry on your list. He just saw it and is raving about it. He is our head engraver and a damn good one at that."
John H. C. Stingle, Motor & Outing Editor, Los Angeles Examiner, Los Angeles, Calif.
"While it is generally recognized that ARIZONA HIGHWAYS is an outstanding magazine, yet for admirers of Ross Santee's work the December issue is 'top flight.' Among other sketches the Cross S is startlingly true to detail as old-timers knew the place."
'Thanks a lot for sending me each month ARIZONA HIGHWAYS. There are many published-but yours seems more like a magic mirror that faith-fully reflects the beauties of your country."
You and the Highway Department of your state are to be congratulated upon the Christmas number of ARIZONA HIGHWAYS.
It is, without doubt, the finest publication of its kind that has reached my desk in a decade...' Frank Switalski, Executive Vice President, Cincinnati Automobile Club, Cincinnati, Ohio.
"May I say that each successive issue of ARIZONA HIGHWAYS is heartily looked forward to and is so much in demand that I have been requested to ask for an additional copy for the use of our operation offices.
"Having been an Arizona resident the greater portion of my life, you can readily understand why I would be an en-thusiastic booster. The December issue is before me and I might mention that it has been very proudly exhibited to all of my associates since its receipt."
Harry F. Embry, Chief Clerk, Traffic Dept., Santa Fe Trailways, Los Angeles, Calif.
"We were very much impressed in going over the December issue of ARIZONA HIGHWAYS, particularly with the cut "Peace on Earth..." representing Christmas in Arizona.
"I would appreciate a photograph and permission to reproduce this in con-nection with a future issue of our Club publication, "The Car."
J. G. Moxey, Editor, THE CAR, The Automobile Club of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pa.
"I just must write and congratulate you on your December issue of ARIZONA HIGHWAYS:-without ex-ception, the most beautiful and versatile magazine published. This magazine has been instrumental in telling the rest of the world about Arizona-for everyone reading it must get the urge to see your state."
Edith T. Walters, National Automobile Club, San Diego, Calif.
To renowned motor editor John H. C. Stingle; to our good friend, Judge Faires, up in Gila county; to Mr. Switalski, Mr. Taft, Mr. Embry, Mr. Moxey; and Miss Walters, and to the many kind and thought-ful people in Arizona, America and else-where, we extend sincere thanks for the notices about our Christmas issue. We shall try to present a book that will never let our friends down. (Aside to Mr. Stingle: "damn good" engraver is now a member of our happy family. If we can put out some thing that will even be noticed by the head man in the engraving department of the L. A. EXAMINER, reckon we'll be doing a pretty good country day's work.)
A HAPPY SUGGESTION:
"I am writing this to make a suggestion for some future issue which may be worth your consideration. From the viewpoint of us eastern 'dudes' there is one thing in your country which has a very great attraction, and that is the desert Indian trading post. The returning tourists love to boast of the jewelry or blankets they've purchased from a 'real Indian trader.' Such trophies carry more glamour than any purchases made at the various tourist centers.
"One that I feel is very worthy of note is that of Mr. Johnny O'Farrell at 'The Gap' on route 89 north of Flagstaff. This post, erected a little over a year ago, is one of the most stunning buildings of its kind that I have ever seen.
". . . the friendly hospitality extended to us by Norman Nevills and his family at Mexican Hat, the Wilsons at Rainbow Lodge, and the O'Farrells at 'The Gap' stands out as one of our happiest memories."
Miss Corinne E. Stubbs, Trenton, N. J.
