From a Roadbuilder's Notebook..

ROCKY POINT, or Punta Punasco, is an opportune fishing port on the Gulf of California, close enough to be considered almost a part of Arizona. It would work no undue hardship on a person leaving Phoenix, Tucson, Casa Grande, Ajo or any point in southern Arizona by early morning to have a catch of fish by early evening.
Rocky Point is approximately 125 miles south of Ajo, Arizona, and 75 miles south of Sonoyta, Sonora, the latter being a small, quaint village a mile from the international border.
The drive from Ajo to Rocky Point is through some of the most spectacular desert terrain in the west. The traveler traverses the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument between Ajo and the border and goes through a great desert region, of heavy desert growth, between Sonoyta and Rocky Point. From Casa Grande or Tucson, the traveler has the further enjoyment of crossing the vast Papago Indian Reservation on the way to the Point.
The road from the border to the Gulf is a desert road, now being improved by the Mexican government. Facilities at the present time are rather meagre, although boats for fishing are available. It is recommended that travelers carry a supply of water, food and a camping outfit. Superb fishing compensates for any small inconveniences the traveler may encounter now. In the not too distant future, Rocky Point will be one of the great fishing resorts on the Gulf of California.
Nogales, Sonora, is a bustling Mexican border city.
