Hermosillo

SONORA, the second largest state in the Republic of Mexico, has an area of 76,922 square miles. Only Chihuahua is larger. The capital of this vast area of mountains, desert and ocean-swept shore is, by literal translation “beautiful little place”—Hermosillo.

Hermosillo arises like a fragrant, well-tutored garden out of the desert along the Sonora River, 185 miles south of Nogales, 85 miles north of Guaymas.

The highway from Nogales to Guaymas, a continuation of America's U. S. 89, passes through Hermosillo. Well graded throughout, this highway is oiled paved about 35 miles on eachside of Hermosillo and will eventually be hard-surfaced all the way from Nogales to Guaymas.

Modernity has made great strides in the Sonoran capital, whose population is estimated at 25,000. There are many fine buildings, the main streets are all paved, and there is an atmosphere about the place of a city with a mission of its own and a destiny to be fulfilled.

Ample and commodious accommodations are available for every traveler. There are a number of fine hotels, among which the Hotel Laval and Hotel Ramos are especially well appointed.
