Of Martin Gambee
introduction to an outstanding artist
The Hopi Indians live in their high mesa pueblos overlooking the Painted Desert of Navajo County. They worship their gods, and till their scanty acres as they have done for centuries. These proud, brave people, in their picturesque villages, live as their forefathers have lived, enact their roles in the traditional pageant of their people, grow old and wise and patient in the face of the cold winds of winter, summer's hot suns. They are children of the sun, the wind, and the weather, proud and uncomplaining on their high mesas.
