The Engineer's Log DISTRICT NO. 1 B. M. Atwood District Engineer FEDERAL AID PROJECTS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Federal Aid Project No. 36-A, Reopened. Widening and drainage structures. Contractor, Henry Galbraith of Jerome, Arizona. Construction started September 11th. Progress good. Percentage completed 20 per cent Federal Aid Project 19-B Reopened. Prescott-Ash Fork Highway. Widening and drainage structures. Contractor, Henry Galbraith of Jerome. Construction started September 8th. Percentage of work complee 66 per cam.
Small extia gang working east and west of Ash Fork doing resurfacing. Part of material on hand for rebuilding two wooden bridges just east of Ash Fork, they will be rebuilt during the month of November.
From this date on during the winter those taking the Old Trails Route should be prepared for cold weather and snow, we may get snow any day now.
DISTRICT NO. 2 George B. Shaffer District Engineer FEDERAL AID PROJECTS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Federal Aid Project 64-B, Gillespie Dam Highway Bridge. Consists of four 160 ft. spans and five 200 foot spans. Excavation for piers and abutments under way. Work progressing slowly at present, due to adverse conditions and to previous delay caused by highwater. Contractor, Lee Moor Contracting Company.
Percentage of work completed 35 per cent.
Federal Aid Project 82-B, Telegraph Pass Section on Yuma-Phoenix Highway. Progress fair. Contractor, Ken Hodgman, of Oakland, California. Work has been resumed on this project after the necessary shut down due to the excessive heat. Work completed 40 per cent.
Federal Aid Project 64-B, PhoenixYuma Highway. This work comprises the approaches and section of roadway for the new Gillespie Dam Bridge. Contract awarded to Skousen Bros. of Mesa. Contract taken over by Schmidt & Hitchcock. Work starts this month. & Hitchcock. Percentage of work completed 35 per cent.
Federal Aid Project No. 82-A, YumaGila Bend section of Phoenix-Yuma Highway. Contract awarded to White & Miller of Yuma low bid. Owing to more favorable weather conditions construction will start on October 4th and be completed December 1st, work completed 50 per cent.

Chandler-Casa Grande Highway. Pinal County Section. Total percentage of project completed 78 per cent. Construction by state forces.

Extra gang forces under E. D. King, have completed work in this district.
TEMPE BRIDGE SURVEY
Topographical survey and drilling to determine new bridge site across the Salt River at Tempe. Geo. L. Burns, Location Engineer. Completed.
SACATON-PICACHO HIGHWAY SURVEY
Sacaton end now under way, F. A. Berg, Locating Engineer.
Picacho end. Survey started September 13, F. B. Jacobs, Locating Engineer. Completed.

Federal Aid Project No. 88-B, Safford-Duncan Highway. Grading by State Forces, J. M. Webster, Foreman, Roy White, Res. Engr. Percentage of work completed 40 per cent.
Federal Aid Project No. 88-B, SaffordDuncan Highway. This work consists of bridges and drainage structures. Contract awarded to Borderland Con-struction Company. Progress good. A. F. Rath, Res. Engr. Percentage completed 32 per cent.
ARIZONA STATE ROADS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Apache Trail-Horse Mesa Section, non Federal Aid Highway. Under construction by State Forces. Progress very good. Note: -Starting September 17th, 1926, at 4:30 p. m. road will be opened to the traveling public.

EXTRA GANG WORK
Extra gang Forces under C. H. Lewis, now working on Apache Trail near Fish Creek. Repairing damages caused by recent washouts and placing new drainage structures and retaining walls.
DISTRICT NO. 4 E. M. Whitworth District Engineer ARIZONA STATE ROADS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Douglas-Rodeo. Good. Grade raise and surfacing work under construction at the New Mexico State Line by State forces under Dan Kleinman. 80 per cent complete.
EXTRA GANG WORK
Douglas-Pearce. Good. Extra gang forces under M. E. Taylor are engaged in surfacing the sections which become soft or slippery in rainy weather. At present 5.8 miles of surfacing is in place on these sections.
Tucson-Nogales. Floods of the past month have not damaged the roadway to any large extent. Traffic was not interrupted at any time. Repair work on drainage is now in progress.
Tucson-Douglas. The recent flood washed out the San Pedro bridge at St. David. The department constructed ap-proaches to the river and a ford in the river bed. Light traffic can cross on this ford. Trucks and buses are in-structed to detour by way of Vail-Sonoita and Sonoita-Tombstone. A team is retained at the ford at all times to as-
