PHOENIX-TUCSON-NOGALES U. S. Routes 80 and 89

From Florence-Superior Junction to Florence very good. Florence streets to good.

Dips on Tucson-Florence Highway, which were heavily sanded by the recent rains are now being cleared. Florence to Oracle Junction excellent. Oracle Junction to Tucson excellent.

CAUTION: Care should be exercised in driving dips and fords.

Tucson towards Continental 11.85 miles paved; excellent. From end of pavement to pavement north of Nogales very good. Nogales city streets paved. Distance Phoenix to Nogales 283 miles. Driving time seven hours.

CHANDLER-CASA GRANDE State Route 87

Chandler-Casa Grande highway from Chandler south 6 miles paved. From Tan Junction to Gila River use dethrough pass. Fair condition. 6 miles south of Chandler to the junction of the San Tan Road surfacis completed and in excellent shape. Bridge across the San Tan Canal now open. Gila River to Casa Grande good.

Note:-Crossing of Gila River during high water impossible. Sacaton bridge is now open to all traffic.

ROOSEVELT-GLOBE-APACHE TRAIL State Route 88

Roosevelt-Globe-Apache Trail highway Apache Trail Junction on Mesaerior highway to a point five miles out of Roosevelt Dam excellent.

From this point a distance of three miles old road being used. Same in condition but narrow with sharp curves. From end of old road traffic uses a completed section of the new Mesa section of Apache Trail connecting with excellent road below Roosevelt Dam.

Roosevelt to Globe very good. Driving time Phoenix to Globe via Roosevelt six and one-half hours.

Caution: -Look out for construction trucks from Horse Mesa turn off to Apache Trail Junction.

Note: Apache Trail Highway open to traffic full 24 hours daily.

YUMA-PHOENIX HIGHWAY U. S. Route 80

Phoenix to Hassayampa: Agua Fria bridge washed out during recent rains. Phoenix West traffic being routed over U. S. Route 89 to Marinette, va Laitchfield, from Litchfield over paved road to one mile west of Coldwater, connecting with U. S. Route 80.

Hassayampa River to Gillespie Dam -Highway gravel surfaced in excellent condition. Highway approach to the Gillespie Dam apron washed out; this crossing was closed to traffic February 15th. Due to the continued high water repairs were delayed for some time. Crossing on apron of Gillespie Dam except during high water actual danger stage; the Arizona Highway Department has available at all times a large truck for towing and transporting cars across the dam.

Gillespie Dam to Gila Bend. Extra forces completed repairs. Road fair. Wellton to Gila Bend, road in excellent condition. Wellton to Yuma fair.

Length of route Phoenix to Yuma 204.56 miles. Original driving time, Phoenix to Yuma seven hours. Driving time for the present, approximatetly nine hours.

PHOENIX-PRESCOTT-ASH FORK U. S. Route 89

(New Route) From, Phoenix to four miles beyond Marinette a paved highway extends 20.15 miles, end of pavement through Nada and Beardsley to Hot Springs Junction to Wickenburg excellent.

Wickenburg to Congress excellent.

Note: During recent rainy weather considerable damage done to road between Hot Springs Junction and Wickenburg with approach to Wickenburg bridge washed out for a distance of 120 feet. The Arizona Highway Department is maintaining a truck to tow cars across during high water stage. The approach to the bridge at Peoples valley washed out February 16th, a detour is taking care of the traveling public. Repains to all damaged sections of road being rushed and nearing completion.

Congress to Yarnell, Federal Aid Project 72-B, completed and open to traffic. Condition very good. During recent heavy rains travel was siightly held up due to small slides. Yarnell to White Spar over 72-A excellent. Prescott-White Spar Forest highway excellent.

Note: Slides occur during and following heavy rains on this section. The bureau of Public Roads has a maintenance force on this section and are keeping the road open and safe for traffic. New route 112-888 miles. Driving time three and one-half hours.

Prescott-Ash Fork, distance 50.4 miles. First six miles out of Prescott under construction, detour necessary. Remainder of road excellent but care should be taken in passing cars as road surfacing is only 12 fest wide. Driving time over new route, Phoenix to Ash Fork, five hours. Total distance 167.42 miles. Saving in mileage over route via Kirkland 26.54 miles. The National Old Trails Highway on U. S. Route 66 enters Arizona from New Mexico at Lupton; leaving the state at Topock, crossing the Colorado river into California. From Lupton to Holbrook very good, length 76 miles. Holbrook to Winslow, gravel surfaced, excellent, length 32 miles.

TOPOCK TO LUPTON U. S. Route No. 66

Winslow to 10 miles east of Canyon Diablo, excellent. From point 10 miles east of Canyon Diablo to Flagstaff, a total distance of 45 miles; parts of this road under construction. With the exception of a few short detours, excellent time can be made over this stretch.

As the route traverses the high country near Flagstaff, it is subject to frequent rains or snows, and mud chains should be carried at all times. Distance from Flagstaff to Williams 35 miles. Road fair to excellent. From point 19 miles west of Flagstaff to Williams narrow. Road 16 feet wide. From Williams you drop down 1700 feet to Ash Fork, where U. S. Route 89 connects with this Route. Condition of road from fair to good, with some rough spots. Distance 19 miles.
