Information re: connecting roads and weather conditions will be cheerfully furnished by any Chamber of Commerce.
PHOENIX TO PRESCOTT HAS-SAYAMPA TRAIL U.S. 89-113 MILES. Leaving Phoenix, go west on Van Buren Street to Grand Avenue. Pavement 16 miles, gravel surfaced to Wick-enburg. Bridge over Hessayampa River at Wickenburg completed and open to traffic. Wickenburg to Con-gress Junction, gravel surface 15 miles. Construction work about one mile north of Wickenburg, fair detour. Con-gress Junction to Prescott, excellent road through Peoples Valley and over mountain grade, 44 miles.
PRESCOTT TO ASH FORK, U.S. 89 -53 MILES. Gravel surface, good condition, 6 miles of paving from Prescott to Granite Dells. U.S. 66, to Flagstaff 57 miles, to Cameron 54 miles, road fair condition; to Lee's Ferry 63 miles; cannot cross river until Dec. 1st. Fredonia 90 miles; desert road unimproved. Only experienced drivers should travel over this road north of Cameron. For information call at White Garage or bank at Williams, or Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce regarding condition of road north of National Old Trails, Route 66.
PHOENIX TO YUMA, 199 MILESOLD SPANISH TRAIL-BROADWAY OF AMERICA, U.S. 80. Leave Phoenix on West Van Buren street, Phoenix to Hassayamva 44 miles: paved. Hassay-ampa to Gila Bend 35 miles, gravel surfaced, rough in places, loose gravel; deep dips. Drive at moderate speed. Gila Bend to Yuma, 120 miles, gravel surfaced. Drive carefully through dips and washes, particularly in vicinity of Aztec and Sentinel to Wellton. Well-ton to Yuma loose gravel. Fair road to pavement. Paved 10 miles through to Colorado River Bridge.
PHOENIX TO DOUGLAS AND RODEO-OLD SPANISH TRAIL-BROADWAY OF AMERICA-U.S. 80. Leave Phoenix on East Van Buren street; paved through Tempe, Mesa to Desert Wells 23 miles, gravel surface with loose gravel in places. Drive slowly through dips and washes. Pavement five miles to Florence Junction. Gravel surfaced to Florence. Florence to Tucson, 68 miles, excellent highway 62 miles, pavement six miles. Leave Tucson via Stone Avenue, Vail and Benson to Tombstone. Leaving Tombstone, pavement 16.2 miles, gravel surfaced through Tombstone Canyon to one mile from Bisbee; paved through Bisbee and Lowell to Douglas. Douglas to Rodeo 51 miles. Construction new location near Douglas, use present road detour. Gravel surfaced, rongh in places.
PHOENIX TO GLOBE AND SAFFORD, U.S. 180. Leave Phoenix on East Van Buren street. Paved through Tempe and Mesa to Desert Wells, 23 mi'es. Gravel surface followed by five miles of pavement to Florence Junction. Florence Junction 40 miles; Florence Junction to Superior, 15 miles, gravel surfaced road. good condition. To Miami 21 miles, excellent mountain road, gravel surfaced to Geronimo, paved 21 miles through Safford and Solomonville, good graded road through Duncan to State Line.
PHOENIX TO PRESCOTT-BLACK CANYON ROAD-103 MILES. Good, except in wet weather. Sharp curves and steep grades.
PHOENIX TO TUCSON, VIA CASA GRANDE, U.S. 80; S. 87, 126 MILES. Leave Phoenix on East Van Buren street, through Tempe, Mesa and Chandler to four miles south of Chandler, followed by excellent gravel road 16 miles to detour, four miles to Gila River Bridge, detour rough. Excellent surfaced road to Casa Grande, 17 miles. Casa Grande to Tucson 66 miles, gravel surfaced nearly all the way, somewhat rough. Toltec to Elroy, six miles. Balance good to pavement, five miles from Tucson.
PHOENIX TO ROOSEVELT DAM GLOBE-APACHE TRAIL-155 MILES Leave Phoenix on East Van Buren street, U.S. 80 to Apache Junction 31 miles Roosevelt Dam 47 miles, excellent scenice mountain road. Roosevelt to Globe, S. 88, 37 miles, gravel surfaced, excellent. Tonto Cliff Dwellings near Highway.
PHOENIX TO SPRINGERVILLE VIA GLOBE AND RICE, U.S. 80; U.S. 180 AND S. 73. Leave Phoenix on East Van Buren street through Tempe, Mesa to Florence Junction, Miami, Globe to Rice, 116 miles. See Globe Highway. Through McNary to Springerville, 138 miles, very good condition except Sawmill Hill, between Rice and White River. New construction between McNary and White River; drive carefully. White River to Springerville very scenic trip.
PHOENIX TO EHRENBURG, 175 MILES. Leave Phoenix via West Van Buren street and Grand Avenue, Hassayampa Trail to Wickenburg, 54 miles. From Wickenburg to Ehrenburg, 121 miles. Leaving Wickenburg, natural gravel surface, 10 miles. Graded road to Wenden, gravel surfaced to Salome, 53 miles. Gravel surfaced to Quartzsite. Road from Wickenburg west to Quartzsite very rough. High centers and cross-washed. All travel going via Bouse. Fair desert road to Ehrenburg. Ehrenburg Bridge closed. Ferry in overation daytime only. Charges $2.50 per car.
PHOENIX TO TOPOCK STATE LINE 337 MILES Phoenix to Ash Fork. Hassayampa Trail, U.S. 89. Ash Fork to Topock 167 miles. Ash Fork to Seligman 25 miles, cinder and gravel surfaced. excellent. Seligman to Kingman, 91 miles. improved graded highway with occasional washes near Truxton Indian school, fair condition. Kingman to Oatman 29 miles over mountain grades. sharp curves, fair ondition. To Tonock, 26 miles, improved graded highway.
PHOENIX TO LUPTON. 390 MILES -U.S. 89, 66. Phoenix to Ash Fork via Hassavampa Trail, 167 miles. Ash Fork to Lupton 223 miles. Ash Fork to Flagstaff 57 miles. cinder surfaced road. Three miles detour east of Ash Fork on account road construction. Detour rough and dusty. Surfacing road about 12 miles east of Ash Fork; drive slowly, loose gravel. Williams to Maine narrow road. Flagstaff to Holbrook mies, macadam 23 miles, excellent. Drive slowly through dips between Canyon Diablo and Winslow, loose dirt in dips; very rough. Gravel surfaced through Winslow to Holbrook.
