Comparison of the registration total with the 1928 estimated population of 120,013,000 indicates that there is now one motor vehicle for every 5 persons in the United States, or one for every family.

From the owners of the 24,493,124 motor vehicles, the States and the District of Columbia collected in license fees, registration fees, permit charges, fines, etc., the sum of $322,630,025. This is $21,568,893 more than was collected in 1927 and an increase of more than 7 per cent.

After deducting $21,524,733 for collection and miscellaneous purposes, the balance of $301,105,292 was applied to State highway funds ($208,880,272), local road funds ($60,399,109), and to State and county bond funds ($31,825,911).

The registration totals and fees collected for all States are as follows:

Copies of the plans and specifications may be seen at the office of the State Engineer, Phoenix, Arizona, or may be obtained from the State Engineer upon the payment of Five ($5.00) Dollars, which will be returned to the contractor should the plans and specifications be returned within ten (10) days after the opening of bids.

The bidder will be required to comply with the provisions of the specifications and contract in the bidding and the award and execution of the contract.

It is to be noted that the contractor is required to furnish all materials for a complete work.

NOTICE TO CONTRACTORS

Sealed bids for the construction of the Superior-Miami Highway Oil Surfacing, will be received until 2:00 P. M., May 13, 1929, and publicly opened and read, subsequent to the disposal of Federal Aid Project No. 93-A, at the office of the Arizona State Highway Commission, at Phoenix, Arizona.

All proposals must be marked upon the outside of the envelope "State Highway Contract, Superior-Miami Highway Oil Surfacing."

The work consists of mixing, placing and furnishing two (2") inches of Plant Mixed Oil Treated Surfacing, involving the following approximate quantities: 25,000 Tons Plant Mixed Material 123,400 Ton Miles Haul 19.5 Miles Spreading and Finishing The project begins at Superior and extends approximately 20 miles to Miami.

All bids must be accompanied by an unendorsed, certified or cashier's check not less than 5% of the gross amount of the bid, payable to the State Treasurer of Arizona.

The Arizona State Highway Commission reserves the right to reject any and all bids.
