Praise… For Our Brother The Sun

Long before the daylight the dawn is a glowing promise. The earth lifts up a prayer at dawn. The eastern sky glows expectantly from blue to yellow or from purple to crimson. The day breaks with a litany of light. Sounds begin softly like the growing light, first a twitter then a solo rising to a chorus. A fanfare of color fades as the sun comes from the curtain of the morning twilight. Every moment there is changing light. Every day is timed by the sun and every day is different. As the sun swings north or south winter will follow summer and summer will follow winter.
The sun creates the day from dark and gives us changing seasons. Because of sun winter days are blessed, spring has fragrant flowers and summer pleasant shade. Autumn brings a fruitful harvest. Every creature has need of sunlight and every one in turn receives it, for every hour of every day the sun is shining somewhere. The source of all our energy is the life of growing things. From dawn to dusk the sun is with us, fading in the evening twilight with the lingering warmth of parting, the promise of rest and the reassurance that darkness will bring the dawn.
