Superlative in Enchantment

BY: ESTHER HENDERSON
Neither human experience or imagination can ever conceive all of the moods and colors of our Grand Canyon. On the opposite page Josef Muench's camera portrays the rolling sea of fog within the great abyss. Here on a winter day at the South Rim, snow and fog contrast with the angular rock forms. The uncommon blanket is created by an inversion layer of warm air with cold air from below. Dave Davis' photograph, right, catches the day's first light. Below, Josef Muench ended his idyllic day at the Canyon with a masterpiece of sunset magic. From the majesty and strength of a desert storm is born the beauty, the splendor and the wondrous coloring expressed on a master's canvas.
