Today's pictorial rugs depict anything from patriotic American eagle to kangaroos to fully composed pictures of Monument Valley.

The first pictorial blanket known of a classic type was found at Sand Creek, 1864. Although it must be assumed that pictorial blankets were woven before the 1850-1875 classic period, evidence proves that most pictorial patterns post-date that period.
