Solar Lab Highlights

Motorola's Corporate Research Laboratory uses a rooftop test platform to evaluate solar converters. Inputs from the solar converters and a small-scale weather station are relayed into computer terminals inside the buildings. Pyranometers - bub-ble-domed devices measuring total sunshine on the rooftop lab measure solar energy. Motorola scientists developed the "Six Pack" solar collector for simultaneous evaluation of different solar collectors. Spe-cially developed ribbed units, once set into the solar "Six Pack," reduce heat losses from the collector to the atmosphere.
