Solar energy is growing in popularity for heating swimming pools. Some pool owners install solar collectors on their roofs or patios. Other less complicated methods include simple solar pool covers made of plastic. These covers, such as the one pictured at the right, float on top of the water. They admit direct sunlight and help retain the heat in the pool. The sequence of two pictures, below, shows an installation by Powerlift Pool Cover Corporation. In addition to providing a safety factor, it heats the pool and cuts down on maintenance. The custom-designed units are easily raised and lowered by means of small electric motors.
