KEEPING YOUR COOL

July is our hottest month, so Arizonans by the hundreds of thousands head for the water. There are backyard swimming pools, pools in parks, elaborate lagoons at the resorts, tubing down the rivers, jet skiing, houseboating, waterskiing in the nearby lakes, and fishing in just about any freshwater environment you can imagine. And more: the cool quiet of the high mountain lakes, the great beaches along the Colorado River, and, of course, Arizona's great lakes - Mead and Powell - where all you could hope for in terms of water fun waits in abundance.

In this special section, we'll show you the ins and outs of enjoying Lake Mead. And we'll explore Lake Powell's magnificent byways that can only be reached by kayak.

Then, for a summertime change of pace, we'll dip our toe in some of the most scenic backcountry swimming holes in the Southwest. So come along. Take advantage of the great summer sun.
