Arizona Highway Commission Notes
The Arizona State Highway Commission met in regular session in its offices in the Highway Building September 16, 1932, at 1:30 p. m. Those present were Chairman Johns, Vice-Chairman Hart, Commissioners Addams, Barth and Mansfield, also the Secretary, State Engineer and Assistant Attorney General Salmon.
On the recommendation of the State Engineer it was regularly moved by Commissioner Mansfield, seconded by Commissioner Hart and unanimously carried that the contract on the Blythe-Wickenburg Highway, F. A. P. E-98 F., (A. F. E. 6010) and F. A. P. E-98-F (A. F. E. 7402) be awarded to the low bidder, Jack Casson, in the amount of $68,800.
On the recommendation of the State Engineer it was regularly moved by Commissioner Barth, seconded by Commissioner Hart and unanimously carried that the contract on the St. Johns-Springerville Highway, F. A. P. E-68 (A. F. E. 2620) be awarded to Jack Casson, the low bidder, in the sum of $97,076.24.
On the recommendation of the State Engineer it was regularly moved by Commissioner Addams, seconded by Commissioner Mansfield and unanimously carried that the contract on the Tucson-Nogales Highway, F. A. P. E-86-D and F. A. P. 24-B Br. 13, be awarded to Skeels and Graham, the low bidders, in the amount of $39,845.23.
On the recommendation of the State Engineer it was regularly moved by Commissioner Hart, seconded by Commissioner Barth, and carried. Commissioner Addams not voting and Commissioner Mansfield voting "no", that the contract on the Globe-Showlow Highway, Federal Aid Project No. E-99-D, be awarded to C. G. Willis & Sons, Inc., the low bidders, in the amount of $228,934.70.
Resolutions Approved
The next order of business was the approval of a resolution in connection with right of way for the Mesa-Casa Grande Ruins Highway, F. A. P. 97-A, across that portion of the Gila Indian River reservation, known as the Santan District.
Resolution prepared by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad, regarding lease providing for the use of a portion of the railway right-of-way by the BlytheWickenburg Highway in the vicinity of Winden, Yuma County, Arizona, was also approved.
It was moved by Commissioner Barth, seconded by Commissioner Hart and unanimously carried that the Commission discuss the Reconstruction Finance Corporation appropriation.
The Commission adjourned at 4:00 p. m., to reconvene at 9:30 a. m., September 17, 1932.
The Commission reconvened at 9:30 a. m., September 17, at which time a further discussion of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation was held.
It was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the Commission adjourn at 12:00 p. m., September 17, to meet again on September 22, 1932, with the Governor's Advisory Committees.

The Commission devoted the entire afternoon with the County Committees, discussing the appropriation received from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, and adjourned at 4:00 p. m., to reconvene at 9:30 a. m., September 23, 1932.
September 23, 1932
The Commission reconvened at 9:30 a. m., at its offices in the Highway Building on September 23, 1932, all members present with the exception of Commissioner Mansfield.
The first order of business was the approval of a resolution in connection with a license providing for the use of a parcel of land as a source of sand, gravel and other earthy materials to be used on the Prescott-Ash Fork Highway.
After hearing various letters and wires the Commission adjourned, to reconvene at 1:30 p. m., September 27, 1932.

The Commission met in regular session in its offices in the Highway Building September 28, 1932, at 2:30 p. m., all members present with the exception of Commissioner Johns.
On the recommendation of the State Engineer it was regularly moved by Commissioner Addams, seconded by Commissioner Mansfield and carried that the bid on two rotary snow plows be awarded to Neil B. McGinnis, the low bidder, in the amount of $6,398.00.
The Commission adjourned at 3:00 p. m., to reconvene at the call of the Chairman.
Supervision of commercial vehicle drivers has reduced the number of trucks involved in accidents by 19 per cent since 1927. Private passenger cars involved in accidents increased 37 per cent in the same period.
