Friends Travel Adventures Friends Tours Head South to Missions and Ghost Towns

Spirits and spirituality blend with the stunning beauty of Arizona for a unique Photo Workshop called Ghost Towns and Spanish Missions, March 8 to 11, 1995. The trip will take photography enthusiasts to the state's historic mission settlements and through its most noted and colorful mining ghost towns. It will be led by nationally known photographer Peter Mortimer, a former Arizona Highways picture editor and longtime contributor.

The Photo Workshop begins with lunch in Tucson and a spectacular drive through Sabino Canyon and the world-famous Saguaro National Monument. The second day will focus on Mission San Xavier del Bac and Tumacacori Mission.

A session at Ruby, one of the best-preserved mining ghost towns in Arizona, is scheduled for the third day, along with sunrise photo sessions at beautiful Pena Blanca Lake and an afternoon photo stop at Arivaca. A special feature will be a brief landscape photography hike into Sycamore Canyon.

Other notable sites will be Patagonia with its wavy grasslands, the ghost towns of Duquesne and Washington Camp, and the vast San Rafael Valley, which was the filming location for the classic musical Oklahoma!
