FRIENDS TRAVEL ADVENTURES Trekking through Red Rock Country

Combine one of the most beautiful sites on Earth with the talents of a world-renowned outdoor photographer, and you have a truly enriching instructional venture: a Sedona / Oak Creek Photo Workshop led by professional "shooter" J. Peter Mortimer. Set for October 2 through 5, the workshop is one of the most popular annual teaching events organized by the Friends of Arizona Highways. Mortimer provides in-the-field lessons that help photo enthusiasts capture the dazzling hues of this stunning northern Arizona territory. Ruby rocks, sapphire skies, emerald foliage, and pearl pillow clouds the area is ablaze with jewels of color. Mortimer is a former picture editor for Arizona Highways and a longtime contributor who has also been director of photography for the Summer Media Workshop at the University of Missouri's School of Journalism since 1977. His instruction will begin at sites including the world-famous Slide Rock State Park and Mount Wilson. The first night, participants will stay at the noted Sky Ranch Lodge and enjoy an informal get-acquainted dinner. Other activities throughout the four-day trip will include lens lessons at Bell Rock and The Chapel, spectacular and often-photographed red sandstone formations; treks to Grasshopper Point and Midgely Bridge; dinner at a unique Sedona restaurant; and a photocritique session. The workshop will conclude on the fourth day with breakfast and a rollicking four-wheel-jeep tour to Soldier Pass, where a special box lunch will be served. Following are other upcoming trips.
