After their final surrender, Geronimo and his band of Apache raiders were shipped to Florida, then Alabama, where they lived in fear, and many died of disease. They also became objects of curiosity and were put on public display. Geronimo, however, not only adapted to his captivity, but in a sense prospered by it.
