FRIENDS TRAVEL ADVENTURES Photo Samplers Combine the Best of Touring with Picture Taking

The surreal beauty of Ari-zona's renowned geo-graphic "masterpieces" is the focus of a series of The 1996 Friends of Arizona Highways Photo Sampler workshop/tours.

During each five-day trip, participants can capture the visual majesty and grandeur found at Grand Canyon National Park, Rainbow Bridge National Monument, Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Canyon de Chelly National Monument, and Lake Powell.

The Grand Canyon, Arizona's most visited natural wonder, holds in store a potentially breathtaking sunrise at a South Rim point.

Dramatically sculpt-ed millions of years ago by Nature's hand, the Canyon's abyss plunges thousands of feet be-low the Rim.

Monument Valley and Can-yon de Chelly, other sculptural masterpieces located in Ari-zona's high desert country, exude a pristine and mysteri-ous beauty apparent to all who visit. Glowing colors on the sandstone and water at Lake Powell also create a visual por-trait rich in inspiration.

The 1996 Arizona Highways Photo Sampler trips will be led by J. Peter Mortimer, a former picture editor for Arizona Highways magazine. An award-winning photographer, Mortimer's clients range from Eastman Kodak to National Geographic and Gamma-Liaison World Press Agency.

WHEN YOU GO

The Friends of Arizona Highways offers a variety of ways to explore the wonders of Arizona. Photo Workshops led by our master contributing photographers provide picture takers of all skill levels with in-depth hands-on instruction to help them take photos like those in the magazine. Arizona Photo Sampler Tours visit more scenic spots than Photo Workshops, and they offer plenty of tips from the accompanying photographer. Friends Backpacking Tours focus on Arizona's most popular destinations. Scenic Tours with Ray Manley are designed primarily for mature adults.

Assistance is provided by Nikon, Hasselblad, Fuji, and Image Craft.
