and e-mail lettes Spaceship
I enjoyed your article “Prescott’s Very Own Spaceship on Wheels” (“Taking the Off-ramp,” June ’02). The rocket was indeed in a movie, Tabor the Great. The ship looks pretty much like it did when it was made, except it is missing the wings that were on its sides.
Precarious Position
We find the photo appearing on page 45 (June ’02) inexcusable. Unbelievably, the photographer placed his model in a very dangerous position. The heading, “Feeling a little edgy?”, doesn’t begin to describe this situation. Do you realize how many people have felt themselves go over the edge while taking photos or being photographed?
Indian Vote
I hope you will rectify the Indian voting rights error in “This Month in Arizona,” (“Taking the Off-ramp,” June ’02). Arizona Indians could not vote until 1948 [in spite of a 1924 federal law granting them full citizenship]. Despite the federal law, the Arizona Supreme Court

had held that Indians were wards of the federal government and therefore not entitled to vote. It reversed that position in 1948.
Typo Catcher
I was amused to find on page 46 of the June ’02 issue (“Weekend Getaway”) that the Marks House Bed and Breakfast is located in “Prescottt.” I am sure that this spelling was on purpose just to see who was paying attention. Clearly the poor old editor wasn't paying atttention.
Suspect Syntax II
Regarding the letter, “Suspect Syntax:” As a 10-year “snowbird” in Yuma, I have never seen an airplane landing on the parking lot of the Yuma County Fairgrounds, but they could if they so wished. The primary aircraft flown at the Marine air station are the Harrier jets that can land and take off vertically. They are capable of landing in a parking space on the fairgrounds lot if they so wished. The poor old editor appreciates the technical information, but he has to admit that if the syntax of the offending sentence were better, this whole issue could have been avoided.
Favorite Photographer
I was so pleased to see the photos by Larry Ulrich this month (“Canyon in Bloom,” June ’02). I have always enjoyed the beauty he brings to his work.
Sedona Hike
As a photographer myself, I was completely fascinated with the photography of Galen Huntsinger (“Sinaguan Time Travel,” June ’02). To carry heavy equipment into such an environment is a feat unto itself. To be able to capture nature as he did is incredible. The article was written from the viewpoint of a real hiker, giving a real sense of adventure, including the pitfalls, and how to keep on going.Regarding the article, “Sinaguan Time Travel,” by Daniel Huntsinger, I had to force myself through the first part of it. It sounded more like the writer was bemoaning having to endure the trials and tribulations of the great outdoors, as if he did not really like being out in the wilderness. It seemed more about him than it did about the beautiful, amazing and historical part of the Arizona red rock country.
