A Scottsdale museum that celebrates Western art is the best such museum in the nation, according to a new ranking by True West magazine.

Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West, which opened in early 2015, was honored in True West's September issue. The publication, based in nearby Cave Creek, focuses on Old West adventure, history, culture and preservation.

Bob Boze Bell, executive editor of the magazine, praised the museum's "dedication to its mission of preserving and interpreting our great Western art," adding that the facility helps preserve "the spirit of the Old West."

The two-story museum building, at 3830 N. Marshall Way, is owned by the city of Scottsdale and operated by a nonprofit organization. The museum's CEO said the magazine recognition is a tribute to the dedication of the museum's staff and volunteers.

In the museum's short history, it's also become a Smithsonian affiliate and drawn rave reviews on sites such as TripAdvisor. For more information about the museum, visit scottsdalemuseumwest.org or call 480-686-9539.
